COURSE DESCRIPTION:

These one day seminars presents Mary Hutto’s concepts and utilization of Stretch Away Muscle Pains

Stretching system for the upper body or lower body. This is a lecture/lab hands on course. The course

is designed for health care professionals ( PT, PTA,OT, ATC) as well as professional trainers, who wish to

broaden their existing therapy skills to help people regain lost mobility, improved function improved

posture and eliminate muscle pain. It is recommended that the person is knowledgeable in anatomy

and exercise therapy. Each major joint will be discussed focusing on general anatomy, desired range of

motion, important muscles, referred pain and the specific stretch/stretches for that area.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Wear loose, comfortable lab clothing (with long hair pulled back)

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

All participants will gain an understanding of Stretch Away Muscle Pain Stretching system for the upper

& lower body. The participant will have enhanced assessment skills when examining extremity and

spinal joints. They will have the guidelines necessary to apply, when indicated, targeted safe specialized

stretches, that focus on muscles that are causing limited motion, poor posture or muscle pain. . The

most important outcome is that patients will benefit from this new approach and be able to implement

the stretches into their clinic immediately.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY:

Mary Smithson Hutto graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachlor’s of Science in Physical

Education/secondary teaching certificate in 1980. She had been a competitive gymnast at the University

of Denver before going to University of Colorado, where she was exposed to Athletic training from

having minor injuries. She started her career in Athletic Training at University of Colorado and worked

in one of the training rooms and traveled with the men’s soccer team. She then went to Indiana State

University to get her Masters in Sports Medicine in 1981. Sports Medicine clinics were just starting to

get popular then and she started working on taking classes needed to get into Physical Therapy school

when she went back to Colorado and was a substitute Teacher. She attended the University of Health

Sciences/Chicago Medical School from 1984-1986. She returned back to Boulder Colorado to work with

Orthopedic surgeons in the mornings, at Boulder Orthopedics and then worked at the Louisville Sports

medicine Clinic in the afternoons. Windsurfing brought Mary to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1987, for one year

before settling in Maui. After working 4 years for UpCountry Physical Therapy, she opened her own out

-patient private practice, Mauka Physical Therapy, in 1992, which is located in Kula, Maui. She has

developed her effective Stretch Away Muscle Pain Stretching System as well as her Myofascial

Reposturing bodywork and uses these 2 systems successfully at her clinic everyday. She sells this

system as Apps on the Itunes store for IPhones and IPads. You can listen to her on iTunes on her
